WEBSTER CITY — The Webster City football team remained ranked No. 6 in the latest Associated Press Class 3A poll that was released yesterday afternoon.

The Lynx (4-0, 2-0 District 2) garnered 59 voting points from the statewide panel of writers and broadcasters. They hold a comfortable lead over No. 7 Sioux City Heelan (41), but are well behind Sergeant Bluff-Luton (86) and Pella (86), which share the No. 4 spot.

Solon once again is the top-ranked team in 3A, as the Spartans claimed eight of the 13 first-place votes. Dallas Center-Grimes (one first-place vote) is second and Cedar Rapids Xavier (three first-place votes) is ranked third.

WCHS will host Ballard this Friday night before its Week 6 showdown with Dallas Center-Grimes in Grimes on Sept. 29.

A third member of District 2, Boone, joined the 3A top 10. The Toreadors are 10th.

There were no changes at the top of any of the six classes. Sticking at No. 1 were West Des Moines Dowling (4A), Williamsburg (2A), West Lyon (1A), Council Bluffs St. Albert (A) and Don Bosco (8-man).

Dowling received 12 of the 13 first-place votes in the largest class. Williamsburg picked up 11 of the top votes, West Lyon accrued 10, St. Albert 11 and Don Bosco eight.

In 1A, Van Meter, fresh off its 42-0 victory over South Hamilton on Friday, stayed at No. 2. The Bulldogs earned a pair of first-place votes.

South Hamilton, which had been one of the top “others receiving votes” in each of the last two weeks, did not receive any support. The Hawks (3-1, 1-1 District 6) will host Panorama on Friday.
