Lions hand WCHS boys first loss of spring on links

FORT DODGE — After being nudged out by Webster City at the Spencer Invitational earlier this week, Clear Lake returned the favor on the back nine at Lakeside Golf Course yesterday.

The Lions fired a 150 to win the North Central Conference triangular by eight shots over the previously unbeaten Lynx (158). St. Edmond was third with a 169.

Connor Shannon had one of his better rounds of the season for the Lynx, as he fired a 38. Nathan Ferrell was a shot behind with a 39. Bryan Ferrell added a 40 and Drew Fielder contributed with a 41.

“We played pretty well for seeing the back nine at Lakeside for the first time,” WCHS coach Dave Brighton said.

St. Edmond’s Charlie Doyle was the medalist after he took a one-hole playoff against Clear Lake’s Thomas Storbeck. Both fired 1-under par rounds of 35.
