Cadets shoot WCHS girls out of gym
IOWA FALLS — Iowa Falls-Alden shot a blistering 53 percent from the field and put the game away in the third quarter against Webster City in a North Central Conference girls’ basketball game Tuesday night.
On the strength of a 17-5 run in the third period, the Cadets were able to cruise down the stretch for a 63-46 victory.
IF-A (6-6, 4-3 NCC) connected on 25 of 47 shots and had three players score in double figures. Maddy Juhl poured in 16 points, Taylor Vanatter contributed 15 and Katie Meyer finished with 12.
“They made just about everything,” WCHS head coach Nicole Muhlenbruch said. “We were just a step behind all night so that they got that little bit easier of shot.”
The Cadets reeled off a 20-point first quarter and led by seven, and WCHS (2-10, 2-6 NCC) was never able to catch up.
Freshman Taylor McKinney continued to have a productive campaign at the offensive end for the Lynx. She buried three 3-pointers and finished with 16 points. Cassidy Nerland was effective in the paint with 10 points and six rebounds.
Nicole Sweazey added seven points and six boards in the loss. Halle Mason and Zoey Woodle pitched in five points each.
WCHS finished with just seven turnovers, but that possession management couldn’t overcome the Cadets torrid shooting. The Lynx couldn’t measure up at the offensive end where they shot just 29 percent (15 of 52).
