SH girls let one slip away against Saydel

DES MOINES — A dismal night shooting — 19 percent from the field and 40 percent at the free throw line — cost the South Hamilton girls’ basketball team a golden opportunity to pick up its first victory of the season here on Tuesday.

Leading by as many as 10 points in the first half, South Hamilton (0-4, 0-3 HOIC) coughed up the lead with 20 seconds remaining and then missed the potential game-winning shot at the buzzer in a 29-28 loss to Saydel.

“Same story, different night for us,” South Hamilton head coach Mark Henderson said. “We had lots of good looks, but the shots wouldn’t fall. It’s a frustrating loss because we had so many chances to win it.”

Anna Moss led the Hawks with seven points, eight rebounds and two steals. Taylor Ratzke connected on a pair of 3-pointers and notched six points.

Saydel’s Katie Schmidt led all scorers with 18 points. Her 3-point play with 20 seconds to go put the Eagles in front to stay.
