Season ends for SH girls at 2A regional

FORT DODGE – A challenging day in gusty conditions took its toll on the South Hamilton girls’ golf team on Monday during a Class 2A regional semifinal tournament.

The Hawks were unable to secure one of the top two spots on the leaderboard and advance to next week’s regional final round. Their team total of 447 placed them fourth, just six shots out of second, at Lakeside Golf Course.

“We were shooting for a second-place finish, but it wasn’t meant to be,” South Hamilton head coach Kathi Fisher said.

Pre-meet favorite Alta-Aurelia was at a different level than the other eight teams in attendance. Its 361 was 80 shots clear of runner-up Denver (441). Dike-New Hartford (444) took third.

Alta-Aurelia’s Jenna Snyder shot an 88 to claim the individual title. Three of her teammates placed in the top five as well.

Jenna Woodall turned in her best day of the season and led South Hamilton with a 108. Carly Swenson was next with a 110, followed by Sidney Alsager (114) and Jasmine Hyland (115).
