Lions serve way past Lynx for second time
WEBSTER CITY – Clear Lake got the better of Webster City for the second time in as many weeks in a boys’ tennis dual meet Monday afternoon at the WCHS tennis courts.
The biting temperature and breezy conditions didn’t seem to bother the Lions, who only had one close call in a 9-0 victory.
Clear Lake won 60 of 71 games during the pro-set matches played to 10. Blake Nelson and Dakon Bergquist won four and three games, respectively, for the Lynx.
WCHS (0-3) had its best chance at a win in the No. 3 doubles match, as Kolton Gemmel and Bryan Johnston took the Lions’ tandem of Nick Holtz and Eric Hahn to the wire before falling in a tiebreaker, 11-10 (8-6).
“Gemmel played well again. He continues to come on a little bit,” WCHS head coach Bruce Johnston said. “The guys are hungry for a win right now.”
In junior varsity play, the Lynx Tanner Struchen picked up a pair of singles victories.
WCHS was back on its home courts yesterday afternoon against North Polk.
