Hawk boys clipped on road by Rams, 73-66

JEFFERSON – Trey Tucker had himself a game here last night, as he led the Greene County boys’ basketball team past South Hamilton for its third win in as many outings.

Tucker scored 18 of his game-high 29 points in the second half and the Rams fended off the Hawks down the stretch for the 73-66 triumph.

“Tucker took it to us, especially in the second half,” South Hamilton head coach Nathan Hill said. “I thought we came out a little tentative. Greene County has some physical players and we let them take too many punches in the first half.”

The Rams (3-0, 3-0 HOIC) yanked down nine offensive boards in the opening half and second chance points helped them build a 36-28 edge at intermission.

South Hamilton (1-2, 1-2) controlled the glass better over the final 16 minutes.

Landon Braun made three of Greene County’s nine 3-point baskets en route to 12 points.

Freshman Logan Klemp set the pace for South Hamilton (1-2, 1-2 HOIC) with a career-high 15 points. Senior Andy Cook produced yet another double-double with 10 points and 10 boards before fouling out.

“(Klemp) really battled in the paint,” Hill said. “I thought he really grew up as a player.”

Trey Woodall also had a strong offensive game with 14 points to go along with two steals in a losing effort. Landon Quam gave the Hawks a fourth double-digit scorer with 11 points.

Marco Balderas, another freshman in South Hamilton’s rotation, contributed six points and three assists. Nate Maile scored eight points from close range.
