Hawk boys leap up to fourth, girls sixth at Nevada
NEVADA – It’s a given that Drake Thompson and Devon Fisher are going to be South Hamilton’s top two finishers whenever they take off from the starting line.
But who will take the team lead? That changes from meet to meet.
It was Thompson’s turn yesterday, as he jumped in front of Fisher by seven seconds to place 11th in 19:20 at the Nevada Invitational at Hickory Grove Park. Fisher clocked a 19:27 to finish 14th in the Class B field.
The two guided South Hamilton to a fourth-place team finish with 125 points. East Marshall was the runaway winner with 25.
“Fourth place is really good,” South Hamilton head coach Darrell Paulsen said. “Drake and Devon are definitely our one and two and they’re running really well right now.”
Josiah Brown (20:12) placed 28th, four spots ahead of 32nd-place finisher Jacob Ratzke (20:36). Sam Spicer (22:36) finished off the scoring in 43rd.
Kayla Lucas again set the pace for the South Hamilton girls’ squad, which was sixth with 148. Lucas turned in an 18:16 to take 14th place, while Rachael Huegerich (18:50) was 34 seconds back in 22nd.
Allyson Ervin (19:24) finished 27th, Sarah Rueger (20:34) was 42nd, and Kali Lucas (21:11) crossed in 51st.
South Hardin edged West Marshall for the girls’ team title, 48-54.
