COWBOYS EDGE TROJANS, 6-5: Clarion-Goldfield scored six runs in the first inning and then hung on for dear life the rest of the way in a 6-5 win over Northeast Hamilton in a non-conference baseball game last night in Clarion.

Kyler Rapp bashed three of the Trojans’ eight hits, highlighted by a pair of doubles. He also drove in a run.

Logan Seiser and Gabe Rapp both lashed two singles; Seiser collected three RBIs and Rapp had one.

Truman Chamness added a double.

Kyle Leksell took the loss on the mound. Seiser took over in the second inning and shut the Cowboys down.

NEH (7-12) will be at home this afternoon to take on Dunkerton at 1 p.m.

TOP-RANKED COMETS ADD 2 WINS AGAINST HAWKS: Finishing off a game that began last month, top-ranked (Class 2A) North Polk eventually took two off the South Hamilton baseball team last night in Alleman.

The Comets improved to 26-5 overall with wins by scores of 19-1 and 12-2, both in five innings.

“They’re very good,” South Hamilton head coach Bret Bell said. “It was kind of us beating ourselves early on (in the second game), but after that they really started to hit the ball.”

South Hamilton (3-20) picked up two hits, both by Colton Griffin, in the nightcap. Griffin also drove in a run, as did Dugan Swenson.

The Hawks will begin 2A district play against Iowa Falls-Alden on Saturday in Story City. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
