TRACK: Howard solidifies standing as top sprinter in HOIC

ALLEMAN – Devin Howard accounted for all of the gold brought home by the South Hamilton track teams at Monday’s Heart of Iowa Conference meet.

The senior sprinter reached the expectations lofted upon him by winning the boys’ 100- and 200-meter dash; the Hawks accrued 50 points to place sixth in the team standings.

The South Hamilton girls’ squad placed ninth with 41 points.

Howard – a four-time state medal winner, including a two-time Class 2A runner-up in the 100 – won the 100 in 11.11 seconds and then crossed in 23.08 in the 200.

The Hawks only other medals came in the 4×800 (8:42.37) and 1,600 medley (3:56.54) relays; both placed third.

The South Hamilton girls’ 4×800 battled for the lead throughout and came up less than two seconds short en route to a runner-up finish in 10:27.96.

Kali Lucas took fourth in the long jump (15 feet, 2 inches), as did Allyson Ervin in the 400 hurdles (1:13.28).
