Lynx golfers honor the passing of coach’s mother

WEBSTER CITY – Sometimes the simplest of gestures can mean the world.

A choked up Dave Brighton, the head boys’ golf coach at Webster City, expressed his gratitude to his players after they made the trip to Storm Lake last week to pay their respects following the death of Brighton’s mother.

“All of the kids came up to Storm Lake and it meant a lot to me. It really did,” Brighton said as he tried to reign in the tears yesterday following his team’s 152-160 dual-meet win over Humboldt at Briggs Woods Golf Course.

Norma Brighton, age 86, of Newell, passed away on Wednesday, April 23 at North Lake Manor in Storm Lake. The Lynx golfers were on hand for the visitation on Sunday, April 27. Norma Brighton was laid to rest the following day.

The players recently added a new wrinkle to the dedication; they all wore hats with the letters “NB” embroidered on the back yesterday.

“The hats, that’s really cool,” Dave Brighton said.
