DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa woman has filed a lawsuit claiming she was kept in an isolation cell at a state juvenile home for a total of 280 days.
Court records show 20-year-old Jessica Turner, of Okoboji, filed the lawsuit in August. It names the state of Iowa, as well as officials at the Iowa Department of Human Services and the Iowa Juvenile Home.
Turner claims the state violated her constitutional rights and violated laws and regulations on the use of isolation at the Toledo facility. She says she spend "numerous consecutive weeks" in isolation.
The Des Moines Registers says (http://dmreg.co/1o1Wui1 ) Turner is seeking unspecified damages.
The home closed in January after questions were raised about the treatment of teenagers. Records show the state has not yet filed a response to the lawsuit.
