CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Rescue crews were searching late Monday night for a Cedar Rapids teen who authorities say fell into a storm drain.

Spokesman Greg Buelow of the Cedar Rapids Fire Department says the 17-year-old was playing Frisbee near an elementary school with two other teens when he was pulled into the drain around 7:20 p.m.

Buelow says one of the teens tried to rescue the boy but was also swept into the drain. He traveled more than a mile and exited the sewer system in Cedar Lake.

He was treated for injuries that were not life threatening.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that rescue crews were searching Cedar Lake by boat and walking possible sewer line paths.

Buelow says rescuers believe the teen is alive and plan to continue searching overnight.
