OTTUMWA, Iowa (AP) — Authorities were searching the Des Moines River near Ottumwa for a swimmer missing since Monday night.

The Ottumwa Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1yKBC6K ) a search resumed Tuesday morning for Michael Chrisman. Boats from the Wapello County Sheriff's Department and Ottumwa Fire Department were being used in the search.

Wapello County Sheriff Mark Miller says Chrisman was using a rope to swing over the river about 7 p.m. Monday. Friends saw him enter the water, but he didn't resurface.

The river has been running high due to weekend rains.
