The Enhance Hamilton County Foundation's Food Panty Community Challenge was completed in mid-July with total funds being raised to benefit local food pantries in the amount of $6,658.35. Charitable donations received totaled $4,658.35 and the Foundation matched the first $2,000.
"We were very happy to see the outpouring of donations by charitable donors to benefit the food pantries in Hamilton County," said Sarah Miller, Enhance Hamilton County Foundation Administrative Assistant. "During the summer months donations tend to slow down, so we decided that putting out a challenge now was important as the need is year round and not just at the holidays. The four food pantries receiving funds combine to serve an estimated 160 Hamilton County families each month."
The donations were distributed earlier this week by Miller and included: Upper Des Moines Opportunity (Webster City) that serves all Hamilton County in the amount of $913.62; Trinity Lutheran Church Food Pantry (Webster City) serves the entire county received $675; The Lord's Cupboard Bethesda Lutheran Church (Jewell) serves the South Hamilton area and received a check in the amount of $4,324.73; and the Stratford Food Pantry received $745. The donations to the food pantries were determined by the charitable donor's request and a percentage match was made by the Foundation.
Don and Doris Rastetter accept a check on behalf of the Lord's Cupboard in Jewell from Sarah Miller, Enhance Hamilton County Foundation administrative assistant. The Rastetters have volunteered for over 17 years at the Lord's Cupboard and, at the end of this month, will officially hand the reins over to Susan Lund and Roxie Young.
