The Hamilton County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing Tuesday morning concerning the possible sale of land owned by the county, located south of the courthouse.
Board Chairman Wes Sweedler said lots 1 and 2 of the Red Bull Subdivision - the last lots on the corner of Superior Street and Highway 20, 5.7 acres in total - was purchased by the county about 20 years ago at a cost of $10,000 per acre.
"We were contacted in May by Oppidan Development Corp. of Minnetonka, Minnesota, showing interest in the property," he said. "We've never formally advertised the property. We've reached out a couple of times and have been contacted one other time by someone."
Sweedler said there had been some negotiations on the purchase price and $100,000 was set as the price.
"We had received an agreement and sent back some suggested revisions as well as some restrictions on the use of the property to not have a business compete with the hospital," he said. "We think that's important."
Supervisor Dave Young said the board had hoped to approve the sale following the hearing.
"It's not about the price now. It's about the land use," he said.
Sweedler said the board would not take action on the potential sale as there had been no response yet to the suggested revisions and restrictions.
"We've always said that we want the business that ended up there to enhance Van Diest Medical Center's operation," he said. "That would be our best hope, at the least, not to damage the hospital."
In other action, the supervisors approved a wage change for Kelly Haman of the Conservation Department from hourly to exempt salaried. Her annual wage will now be $29,232. Teresa Greenfield with the public health department has taken on the HIPPA compliance officer duties and will receive a wage increase from $19.05 to $20.88 per hour.
