The Webster City Community School District Board of Directors learned about plans for next year's WC2DC trip at their regular meeting on Monday night.
Patsy Brock, the trip's sponsor, spoke to the board about the annual trip that Webster City Middle School students take to Washington D.C. This year's WC2DC trip is scheduled to begin on May 1, 2015, a Friday, and continue through the following Monday.
Also at the meeting, Ted Larson, director of transportation, reviewed bus routes and the state of district vehicles for the board. Superintendent Mike Sherwood said on Tuesday that Larson has done a good job of managing the district's fleet of vehicles.
"The average age of a bus in the district now is 12 years, which is better than the state average," Sherwood said.
The board also looked at other parts of the district as students, staff, faculty and administration settle in to the new school year. Sherwood said the year has, overall, had a good start. However, he said recent shortened school days due to heat conditions on Friday and Monday have been challenging.
In other business, the board approved a contract recommendation for Cinnamon Kleeman. She will teach vocal music at Webster City High School. The contract stipulates that Kleeman will teach in both Webster City and Fort Dodge. She is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa and has taught in the Cedar Rapids area for the last several years.
Following their regular meeting, the board met for a work session to discuss paperless tools. The board is scheduled to begin hosting paperless board meetings at their next regular meeting on Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. in the School Administration Office Board Room.
