The City Council of Webster City accepted the resignation of Heather Kierzek from the Civil Service Commission at Monday's regular council meeting.
Webster City Mayor Doug Getter said Kierzek and her husband will move to Wisconsin for a new teaching opportunity. Following the approval of her resignation, the City Council voted to appoint Barb Wollan for Kierzek's unexpired term ending on May 31, 2015. Getter said Wollan was the only applicant for the position.
During the public information segment of the meeting, Councilman Geary Meyer discussed the upcoming opening of a new Van Diest Supply Company production plant.
The company is seeking to fill 50 manufacturing positions with the opening of the plant. Meyer said that, as a 32-year veteran of the company, it has been an excellent place to work. He encouraged community members seeking work to apply for the positions.
In other business, the City Council advised that they will be delegating requests for fireworks, parades and street closures to city staff. Councilman Logan Welch asked if those who are denied a request would be able to appeal the decision. City Manager Ed Sadler said they will still have that opportunity.
The City Council is scheduled to meet next on Monday at 5:15 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall for a work session.
