Work at the old Webster Theater is inching closer to completion as the Help Entertain and Restore Organization is on track for their anticipated September grand reopening.
The old marquee is getting a makeover, according to HERO officials. On Sunday, Marty Pringle sandblasted the old burgundy red paint off of the sign. New sheet metal will be added as needed. Priming, painting and the addition of new lighting and neon will complete the transformation.
Kay Ross of the HERO Board of Directors said the adoption of Webster Theater seats has been very successful. There are just a few left so those wishing to contribute $300 to adopt a seat are encouraged to do so in the near future.
Each of the adopted seats will feature a plaque on the back of the chair which will document the donor's contribution.
The HERO Inc. Board of Directors has announced that a General Manager has been hired to manage the Webster Theater. Keri Holmes Rojas will begin her managerial duties Aug. 7. HERO officials said Rojas brings skills in marketing, design, systems processing, small business ownership and retail management to the job.
"I'm thrilled to be returning to the city I was born in," said Rojas, "and am beyond excited to join the team of HEROs who are committed to renewing our downtown. I think my mom is as excited as I am about this opportunity. She has already started a list of places we need to see and people we need to look up."
Rojas found the notice on HERO's Facebook page and applied. She hails from Hampton where she was the manager at Cornerstone Cottage, and president of the Franklin County Historical Society. Rojas graduated with honors from Iowa State University with her degree in industrial technology, occupational safety. She has worked as corporate director of safety for Avery Denison Corporation, owner operator of Kaleidoscope, and general manager of AmericInn.
