IOWA FALLS - Two nights ago the Webster City softball team was undefeated in the North Central Conference and brimming with confidence.
But so much can change in 48 hours.
A night after suffering an 8-3 setback at the hands of 13th-ranked (Class 2A) Fort Dodge St. Edmond, the Lynx were back on their heels again and were unable to make the defensive plays necessary to hang with 10th-ranked (3A) Iowa Falls-Alden last night.
The Cadets (7-4, 6-3 NCC) took advantage of five WCHS errors and scored 10 unearned runs in an 11-1 thumping that ended an inning early via the 10-run rule.
Lynx head coach Jess Howard says her team has to start believing in its abilities.
"We've got to get to the point where we're confident in our abilities and just play," she said. "Iowa Falls put the ball in play and they put the ball in play hard ... we were able to play error free for a few innings, but not for a whole game."

Mikaleh McCoy and Catie Boyd. Brittany Fisher and Lauren Keane. W-Fisher. L-McCoy. HR-WC: Maddie Anderson; IF-A: Shanaya Schutt. RBI-WC: Anderson.
The floodgate opened in the third inning when the Cadets plated six runs - all unearned - to take command for good. Shanaya Schutt delivered the dagger - a 3-run home run that put the home crowd in a frenzy.
The Cadets poured it on with four more in the fourth and then sent everyone to the exits with the final run with one out in the sixth.
Brittany Fisher didn't need all of the run support, but she gladly took it. The IF-A junior allowed just three hits.
Maddie Anderson accounted for the only WCHS (8-5, 6-2 NCC) run with a solo bomb to center field in the fourth inning. Mikaleh McCoy and Cassidy Nerland added singles.
McCoy allowed 10 hits in the circle. She walked three and struck out three.
The schedule only gets tougher for the Lynx tonight when fifth-ranked (4A) and defending state runner-up Carlisle comes to Webster City for a non-conference contest at 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, WCHS will host the Lynx Invite. Also attending will be IF-A, South Hardin and Des Moines Hoover.
