WEBSTER CITY - The 13th-ranked (Class 2A) Webster City boys' soccer team finished off its regular season in dominant fashion yesterday evening at Lynx Field.
Looking to sweep a two-match regular season series against Humboldt, WCHS (15-4) out shot the Wildcats 25-3, including 18-1 on frame en route to a 2-0 shutout.
"We controlled the ball the whole game. It was pretty (yesterday) ... it was fun to watch," WCHS head coach Craig Signorin said.
Seth Crouthamel got WCHS on the board midway through the first half when he took a crossing pass from Landon Daniels and punched it into the back of the net.
The score remained 1-0 until Esler Mejia doubled the lead on another assist from Daniels at the midpoint of the second half.
Lynx freshman goalkeeper Ashton High collected one save.
WCHS will now turn its attention to a Substate 2 quarterfinal bout against South Tama County on Tuesday. The match will take place at Lynx Field, beginning at 6 p.m.
"We're going to work on controlling things up top because they've got some dangerous guys," Signorin said. "Offensively, we're just going to look to keep doing what we've been doing."
