Rosemary Smith Thomas, 75, of Aiken, S.C., beloved wife of 55 years to Tom Thomas, entered into rest Friday, May 9, 2014.
Rosemary was born on Feb 20, 1939 on the family farm near Lehigh, in Webster County, IA, to Leo Gibson (Gib) Smith and Ethel Hoover Smith. She attended country schools in the elementary grades and graduated from Lehigh Independent High School in 1957.
She graduated from the University of Hawaii with a degree in Accounting. She spent twenty years working at Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation where she retired as Deputy Director. Rosemary's passions were traveling, spending time with her family and many friends, and playing both golf and bridge. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Rosemary never met a stranger and always had a smile on her face. She loved life and had a signature laugh that everyone recognized. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. In addition to her husband, Tom, Rosemary is survived by two daughters, Debra Thomas (Kirk) VanZee, Camp Hill, PA, and Deanna Lynn Provan, Winston-Salem, NC; three grandchildren. three great-grandchildren; and four siblings: Geraldine Ackerman, Blairsburg, Donna Brasfield, Thorndale, TX, Sharon Schilling, Fort Dodge, and Karl (Skip) Smith of Fort Dodge.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Leo Gibson Smith, Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Aiken, SC. Another memorial service will be held locally at a later date. Memorials may be left to the charity of your choice.
