BOONE - Even with an abbreviated lineup due to a school conflict, the Webster City boys' track team still managed to string together a lengthy list of solid performances at last night's Boone Invite.
Behind three event victories and 13 top-three finishes, the Lynx accumulated 98 points to finish in the runner-up position in the five-team field. Host Boone ran away and hid from the competition and won the team title with 164 points.
"We had a good final tune-up in our last meet prior to (the North Central Conference meet on Monday) and the (State Qualifying meet next Thursday)," WCHS head coach Tony Bussan said. "I feel the team had a strong showing in spite of being somewhat short-handed due to a scheduling conflict."
Ben Mossman made the 800 meters his event last night, as he won the gold medal in the individual two-lap event in 2:09.96. He also ran the fastest split (2:08) on the Lynx runner-up 4x800 relay (8:47.70). Cole Zahn, Brandon Patten and Brandon Arkland ran the second, third and fourth legs.
Cal Zahn didn't waste any time in claiming the top spot in his pet event - the high jump. He took just one attempt, cleared 5 feet, 8 inches and shut it down with a first-place finish already assured.
The Lynx also picked up the maximum points from its shuttle hurdle relay (1:03.32), which consisted of Dylan Fielder, Cody Blair, Ty Schnathorst and Cody Blair. The group pulled off the feat without its strongest hurdler Tanner Hoveland.
