At a special meeting on Thursday evening, the Stanhope city council acted on recommendations from the search committee and hired two new city employees.
Mike Hanson is the new public works superintendent, replacing Tad Stupp, who resigned in March. Hanson, a lifelong Stanhope resident, starts his employment on May 6. His hourly rate of pay will be $18.50. Hanson will work toward completing state of Iowa certificates for water and wastewater.
Also on Thursday, the council hired Jessica Murray as the new Stanhope city clerk to replace Ron McKenzie, who retires July 1. Murray will be paid $12.50 per hour plus a $150 per month insurance payment. A nine-year resident of the Stanhope area, Murray has most recently been employed at Peoples Credit Union in Webster City. Her start date is May 7, when she will begin training with McKenzie.
In a related matter, Larry Runyan of Stratford was appointed by the council to a part-time, as-needed position of public works assistant for Stanhope, at the rate of $18.50 per hour. According to state law, a licensed individual is required to be at the distribution site. Runyon, retired as city maintenance director in Stratford, holds Iowa Licensed Waste Water Treatment 1, Water Treatment 2, and Water Distribution 3. He will also assist with renovations to the new Lions Den in the town park.
