Mark Stephen Sullivan, 63, of Broken Arrow, died at St. Francis South in Tulsa Tuesday March 4, 2014.
He was born to the late Maurice and Ruth (McDowell) Sullivan, October 28, 1950, in Des Moines, IA. Mark graduated from Dowling High School in 1968 and received a BA in Political Science from Drake University in 1974. He married Elaine Gordon on March 18, 1972 in Webster City, IA.
Mark began his career in telecommunications at Northwestern Bell Telephone in Des Moines, IA at age 16 later becoming the youngest member inducted into the Telephone Pioneers of America. Mark was also a Veteran of the Iowa National Guard.
In 1983, Mark moved his family to Broken Arrow to work as an engineer for Southwestern Bell, retiring from the company in 1991. He later worked for General Dynamics managing fiber optic installations across the country and around the world.
Mark also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, golfing, gardening, yard work, fishing and hunting.
Mark is survived by his wife: Elaine Sullivan, of Broken Arrow, OK; two sons: Shane (Sarah) Sullivan, of Omaha, NE, and Ryan (Julie) Sullivan, of Kansas City, MO; two brothers: Maurice (Ann) Sullivan, of Oconomowoc, WI, and Timothy (Beth) Sullivan, of Jackson, MI; two sisters: Susan (Michael) Rakoff, Shepherdstown, WV, and Kathleen (Tron) Brekke, of Fairfax, VA; seven grandchildren: Sophia, Simon, Samuel, Scarlet, Sawyer, Kathleen and Patrick; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at Hayhurst Funeral Chapel in Broken Arrow. Pastor Dr. Kirt Moelling will officiate.
