Love is in the air as the Webster City High School vocal department prepares for this year's variety show.

Vocal Music Teacher Andrew Wotherspoon said this year's theme is "It's All About Love." The theme ties into the show choir's theme of "Evolution of Love." As Wotherspoon and fellow Vocal Music Teacher Nichole Farley began talking about the songs for this year's show, the theme of love kept coming up.

"It just so happened that all of the songs that I liked had the word love in the title, well the first few anyway, and then I thought, let's go with it," Wotherspoon said.

Huge numbers of students are preparing for the show which premieres tomorrow. Wotherspoon said the ninth through twelfth grade performers are preparing for a rendition of "Love Shack." That performance will feature 150 students. Wotherspoon said he really enjoys those big group performances.

"It's just great to see that many people up on stage and all the things we can do with it," Wotherspoon said.

This year's Variety Show premieres Thursday at 7 p.m. Other performances are scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Unlike previous shows, this year won't feature a Saturday performance due to a scheduling conflict, according to Wotherspoon.

While many students have spent a lot of their time to prepare for the performance, Wotherspoon said local parents have also had a part in getting the show together. He said he's thankful for the parents who go through a lot to ensure that students get to the performances and rehearsals. Parent volunteers also helped set up the stage on Sunday afternoon.

Tickets are available for the shows. Reserved seats can be purchased at the Webster City High School Office for $8 each. General admission seats can be purchased for $5 at the door prior to each performance. All performances are held at the Prem Sahai Auditorium at the school.

The funds raised from ticket sales will go to the Webster City Vocal Boosters. Wotherspoon said the boosters support music programs at the school directly by purchasing music, outfits and more.

"It's a lot of fun and it directly supports the music department," Wotherspoon said.
