JEWELL - Sitting back in a zone defense, the South Hamilton girls' basketball team nonverbally dared Roland-Story to take control of the game from behind the arc last night on Coach Jim Marsh Court.

The Norse happily obliged.

Roland-Story canned seven triples and outscored South Hamilton 21-6 from long range en route to a 62-45 Heart of Iowa Conference victory. Three of the treys came during a 15-2 third-quarter run that put the Norse (10-10, 10-8 HOIC) in command for good.

South Hamilton forward Savana Stangeland (30) hits a turnaround jumper over a pair of Roland-Story defenders in the first half last night in Jewell.

Junior forward Savana Stangeland scored a game-high 19 points for the Hawks (1-20, 1-17 HOIC), and two of her nine makes at the free throw line gave South Hamilton a 32-31 lead with five minutes remaining in the third quarter.

And that's when Roland-Story took over.

A 3 from the right wing by Kirsten Waline put the Norse back in front, and two possessions later Natalie Vance followed her lead with a 3 from the other wing, part of eight consecutive points for the visitors. Waline hit another bomb later in the period to help Roland-Story build a 46-34 advantage heading into the final eight minutes.
