The Daily Freeman Journal

JEWELL - A nine-game winning streak has put the South Hamilton boys' basketball team in position to celebrate tonight if it can beat longtime rival Roland-Story on Coach Jim Marsh Court.

A victory would assure the Hawks (16-3, 14-2 HOIC) of a share of the Heart of Iowa Conference championship. They can win it outright with wins over the Norsemen and North Polk this week.

South Hamilton holds a one-game lead over Prairie City-Monroe (15-4, 13-3 HOIC) leading into the final week of the regular season.

The Hawks won HOIC Small School Division titles in 2007 and 2008. Their last HOIC championship when the league was unified came in 2001.

South Hamilton guards Collin Hill (17.1 points per game), Matt Hislop (14.5) and Trevor Ullestad (12.6) all rank in the top 15 in scoring in the conference.

The girls' game will tip-off tonight at 6 p.m. The boys' contest is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
