Lucille Jackson, 84, Webster City

February 5, 2014
The Daily Freeman Journal

Lucille Fern Root was born on March 5, 1929, to George and Bessie (Annett) Root. She graduated from Hampton High School, Hampton, IA. On September 5, 1948, she married James Jackson at the Church of Christ in Hampton. To this union 5 children were born, Diane, Gary, Duane, David and Steven. She and James were later divorced, but remained good friends.

After a very serious illness, in November 2005, she made her home with her daughter Diane and son-in-law, Ray Vasquez in Webster City. Her granddaughter Michele and great granddaughter Jessica were instrumental in her care.

Lucille had so many passions, but first and foremost was her family. She loved them like no other. Her other passions were raising flowers, writing to pen pals (in her day she had over 100), feeding the birds (cardinals were her favorite) and the squirrels, reading, cooking, crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble (and she could play a mean game), collecting dolls, going out to eat, traveling, going to Dollar General with Duane and Vicki and just sitting and visiting with Gary and their cat Chatty. She never met a person she didn't like and could strike up a conversation with a complete stranger.
