The Daily Freeman Journal

JEWELL - Gilbert has got to be glad it will never - ever - see Matt Hislop on the basketball floor again.

The South Hamilton senior has seemingly made it his season's mission to throttle the Tigers.

As much a track meet as it was a basketball game, Hislop played the role of all-state sprinter to the tune of 25 points and 10 assists to lead the Hawks to their seventh consecutive victory, 85-70, over Gilbert Friday night on Coach Jim Marsh Court.

Matt Hislop (12) gets out on the break and scores an easy bucket in transition over Gilbert’s Jared Gescheidler (51) on Friday. Hislop scored 25 points in a 85-70 victory.

Hislop also scored 25 in a 69-58 win over the Tigers back on Dec. 20.

Drew Wintermote was a force inside for the Heart of Iowa Conference leading Hawks (14-3, 13-2 HOIC) with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Collin Hill gave the team a third double-double guy - the freshman finished with 15 points and 11 boards - and Trevor Ullestad added 14 points and four steals.

The rivals played at a frenetic pace, combining for 10 3-point buckets in the first quarter and 20 in the game. Hislop (five) and Ullestad (four) combined for all nine of the Hawks' triples.
