Flaws, Dinsdale and Chalfant lead WCHS girls to OT upset over Garrigan

Boyd hits big FT in extra period to allow Lynx to prevail on road

ALGONA - Nicole Muhlenbruch wouldn't go as far as saying her team needed this win, but ...

Her team really, really, really needed this win.

After a rough stretch of games in recent weeks, the Webster City girls' basketball team showcased its toughness away from home here last night and upset Algona Bishop Garrigan in overtime, 55-53.

"With all the stuff we've been through, to watch the girls keep their composure ... maybe we've turned the corner," Muhlenbruch, the Lynx head coach, said. "Maybe this is what we needed. Maybe this is why we went through all that stuff to show our resiliency and toughness."

It didn't hurt that WCHS (2-14, 2-11 NCC) showed that it can be consistent and balanced at the offensive end. The Lynx didn't take a quarter off and put three players in double figures, led by Allie Flaws with 18 points. Alex Dinsdale pitched in 11 and Lynne Chalfant dropped in 10.

"You can't win with just one girl having a big night," Muhlenbruch said. "You need three or four girls in double figures and when we've had that we've been in the games."
