WEBSTER CITY - Take Option A away and Clear Lake simply goes to Options B, C and D.

The second-ranked (Class 3A) and unbeaten Lions received just four points from leading scorer Davis Dieken, but others stepped to the forefront to propel Clear Lake by Webster City, 67-48, last night inside the WCHS gymnasium.

Dieken, who exploded for 32 points in a 72-59 North Central Conference win over the Lynx last month, made just two field goals. But Spencer Davidson took charge with five of his team's seven 3-point baskets and scored a game-high 21, and Pete Swenson (12) and Matt Stephany (11) also reached double figures for the visitors.

Mason Myers (4) shoots over Clear Lake’s J.J. Theobald last night inside the WCHS gym. Myers scored 18 points in Webster City’s 67-48 loss.

"They're extremely tough to defend and you can only keep them down for so long," WCHS head coach Marty McKinney said. "They definitely have a ton of weapons."

Davidson rained in four first-half 3s and all of them came off offensive rebounds a trend that had McKinney pulling his hair out all night.

"We had to control the boards, we had to keep them to one-and-done and we didn't," he said. "It's killer when you work hard and play good defense and force them to take a shot, and then you can't secure the rebound."
