Evelyn Nissen, 96, of Webster City, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at the Van Diest Medical Center after a brief illness.
Evelyn Van Langen was born on December 15, 1917 to John and Etta (Brinkema) Van Langen of Kamrar, Iowa. She attended Kamrar schools, graduating in 1935. On July 20, 1936, she married Ardell Nissen at the Kamrar Presbyterian Church. They were married for 69 years and resided in Kamrar, Webster City and Davenport, IA. Evelyn worked at Hahne Printing Co. in the early 1950's. The couple moved to Davenport in 1959. After 28 years and Ardell's retirement, they returned to Webster City. Twenty winters were spent in Weslaco, TX.
They were blessed with two daughters: Verona Yates of Webster City; daughter and son-in-law, Miriam and Ken Iossi of Acworth, GA. Also surviving grandchildren: Rhonda (Dennis) Crane of West Des Moines, IA, Mitch (Kelly) Yates of Webster City, Jim Yates of Kansas City, MO, Kim (Mike) Tataris of Gainesville, GA, and Todd (Kath) Lossi of West Bend, WI. Great Grandchildren: Logan and Carlee Yates; Alexis, Taylor and Christina Tataris; a sister-in-law, Freda Van Langen and brothers-in-law, Ross Hissen and Irvin Nissen Jr. also survive.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ardell; two sisters, Lenora Carson and Elizabeth Schrock; three brothers, Orman, Ernest and John Van Langen and a son-in-law Dean Yates.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Hamilton Hospital Auxiliary and RSVP.
Private, family graveside service will be in the Graceland Cemetery. The Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements.
