The Friends of the Kendall Young Library will host the second annual "Festival of Chocolate" event at Kendall Young Library on Sunday from 2 to 4 pm. This fundraiser supports library programs and activities not covered in the normal operating budget, according to event organizers. Admission is $5 for Friends of the Library members and $6 for non-members. Kids under 10 get in for $2. Organizers call it "a mid-winter celebration of all things chocolate."
Local bakers, cooks and sweets lovers will prepare and enter their best chocolate goodies in the following categories: brownies and bars, cakes and cupcakes, cookies, and confections and candy. A panel of judges will select the top entries in each category and award prizes. Participants in the festival can sample the wide variety of chocolate confections and concoctions. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Borer family. Plates of "to go" chocolates will be available for $5 each beginning at 3:30pm.
The Friends of the Library is a volunteer group that helps supplement the mission of the Kendall Young Library. The Friends of the Library help spread the word about programs, events and activities, raise funds to support programs and collections, volunteer for library events and sponsor programs aimed at encouraging literacy and library use. Annual Friends membership is $5, while a lifetime membership is a one-time cost of $50. Membership will be available at the Festival.
