A new economic development director for Webster City has been hired, according to city officials.

City Manager Ed Sadler said Bill Demuth has been hired for the position. His first day is Jan. 22.

Sadler said Demuth has worked several years at the Department of Economic Development for the State of Iowa and also has local economic development experience in South Carolina and Nebraska. Demuth is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa.

"I am pleased to be back in Iowa and am looking forward to working with Webster City citizens and leadership to grow the area economy" stated Demuth.

Sadler said he felt Demuth would have an easy transition into the Webster City position.

"I think he has a great background and good experience. He visited with members of the City Council and they seemed impressed with his knowledge of Iowa," Sadler said.

Demuth replaces David Toyer, who left Webster City in May 2013 to take a position in Burlington.
