Trojets run out of steam, fall to Don Bosco

January 15, 2014
The Daily Freeman Journal

GILBERTVILLE - Down by just four points after the first quarter, the Northeast Hamilton girls' basketball team ran out of steam over the middle two periods and dropped an Iowa Star Conference contest here last night.

Don Bosco (5-6, 3-4 ISC) outscored the Trojets (0-8, 0-7 ISC) 31-15 in the second and third periods and rolled to a 54-33 victory.

"We hung with them early on, but we just got tired," NEH head coach Adam Vorrie said. "We're dealing with some injuries right now and we've got to find some girls who are ready to step up and help us at the varsity level."

NEH had its most balanced offensive performance of the season, as three girls - Kaylee Massman, Andi Anderson and Leah Meyer - scored eight points. Massman drained the team's lone 3-pointer.

Lauren Becker threw in a game-high 16 points for the Dons. She was joined in double figures by teammate Abby Schaefer (10).

The Trojets will be back at home on Friday to face North Tama at 6:30 p.m.
