WEBSTER CITY - Morgan Gourley's prep volleyball career may be over, but that doesn't mean she's done with the game.

In fact, in many ways, she's just getting started.

Gourley, a Webster City senior, signed a national letter of intent on Friday to play college volleyball at Morningside College in Sioux City beginning in the fall.

Also on hand for the signing were (front) Lynx head coach Jess Howard and Morningside coach Sara Horn, as well as family members (back) Gianna, Sawyer, Kathy and George Gourley.

An NAIA school, Morningside has qualified for the national tournament in each of the past two seasons under head coach Sara Horn. The Mustangs won the Great Plains Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships in 2011.

Gourley was recruited as a defensive specialist.

"This just shows that if you put in the time and effort you can get dividends from it," Webster City volleyball coach Jess Howard, who was on hand for the signing, said. "I think she's going to do great there as a defensive specialist because she did a great job for us when she was playing."

Gourley was a four-year starter for the Lynx and a member of two North Central Conference championship teams. She played almost every position on the floor, including hitter, setter and libero. Her versatility led her to claim three all-conference accolades; she was a second-team member in 2011 and 2012, and a first-team selection this past fall.
