A Webster City woman recently returned from a mission trip to Jamaica.

Joy Fopma, owner of Whoop-Ti-Doos and La-Ti-Daas in Webster City, took a Christmas mission trip with a team of 17 people from Iowa. The group went to the Robin's Nest Children's Home, an orphanage several miles from Montego Bay.This was the fourth trip to the home for Fopma, who originally went on a mission trip there five years ago. Her first trip to the home was her first mission trip since high school and she was influenced by what Biblical scripture says about looking after orphans.

"I knew in my heart that I needed to act upon that," Fopma said.

She returned to lead a team with her husband and brought her children along.

"That's where our kids really became aware of what it means to be a follower of Christ," Fopma said.

Fopma's group took part in many projects and activities while at the home. They worked to build a schooling site and dig out a place for a donated trampoline for the kids. The group also hosted several activities for Christmas, baking cookies with the children, telling them the Christmas story, and helping them make gifts for the directors as a way to show the spirit of giving.

The Robin's Nest Children's Home was started by Michelle Robinette. Fopma said the Iowa native has done much for the children the home has helped.

"I love the fact that it was an Iowa person thinking globally, dreaming big and going out and doing something about brokenness in the world," Fopma said.

Fopma said a couple of her team members are looking to install a well for the home that currently has to ration water and fundraising will be planned once the cost for the well is determined.

More on the home can be found at Donations are welcomed.
