Hamilton County schools are closed today due to expected extreme temperatures.

A wind chill warning from the National Weather Service is expected to remain in effect until noon on Tuesday. Strong winds combined with low temperatures are expected to create a wind chill of between 40 and 50 below zero today. The warning said these temperatures can be life threatening. Frostbite can occur in minutes and lead to hypothermia or death if precautions are not taken.

Closures include Webster City District Schools, St. Thomas Aquinas, Stratford, South Hamilton and Northeast Hamilton as of late Sunday.
