Gregory Jones, 87, Woolstock

Gregory Marion Jones, the son of Marion and Margaret (Mathieu) Jones, was born on March 16, 1926, in Sterling, CO. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Holy Family High School in 1943. Greg then entered the United States Army, serving as a radio operator and rifleman in the Philippines and was honorably discharged in 1946. After his discharge, Greg attended and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Agriculture and then taught Ag classes for a couple of years before he began farming. Greg also sold Dekalb seed corn for many years. He retired from farming in 2003.

Greg was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove and the American Legion. He enjoyed playing golf and bowling. His hobbies were gardening and photography. His favorite ritual was going to Marilyn's caf every morning and afternoon with the area farmers to have coffee.

Greg passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at Southfield Wellness Community in Webster City, at the age of 87 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jackie Butts, and Joan Johnson; brother, Jean Jones; nephew, Charles Johnson and niece, Ann Johnson Bond.

Greg is survived by 16 nieces and nephews; many cousins.

A Funeral Mass will be held on 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 4th, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
