Wes Sweedler has been elected to serve as the chairman of board of supervisors. The election came as part of the annual reorganizational meeting for the board Thursday morning.

Sweedler succeeds Doug Bailey as chairman. Bailey thanked his fellow supervisors for their input and cooperation during the past year.

"Like all years, I guess, there was lots of ground covered in 2013," he said. "Thank you for your help."

Supervisor David Young was elected as the chairman pro-tem.

The meeting also brought the annual appointments to various county boards and commissions. There were five board and commission seats that the supervisors said would be appointed at a later date. Sweedler said a one-year appointment for an area realtor on the eminent domain commission and a five-year appointment on the conservation board seat will be filled in the near future.

"There are several positions that we are still getting names of people who are interested, which is a great thing," he said. "We'll conduct some interviews in the coming weeks to finish filling some of those positions."

Other openings include a delegate spot open on the MIDAS board and a seat on the Mid Iowa Growth Partnership.

"We want to wait until the new city councils in the county are seated and then we will see who is interested in those positions," Sweedler said.

The board is also looking for a medical director to serve on the Hamilton County Board of Health.

While most of the board and commission appointments remained the same, there were a few changes in the list, Sweedler said. As the new chairman, Sweedler will serve as the Americans with Disabilities Act coordinator for the county and as the Case Management Advisory Board chair. Doug Bailey will become the delegate to the Chief Elected Officials Board, replacing David Young. Other new appointments included Sarah Thompson, SEED Director, who will serve as a delegate to the MIDAS Board and the Mid Iowa Growth Partnership. Carrie Hisler and Irene Sosa were appointed to serve one-year terms on the Upper Des Moines Opportunity Inc. Board. Kim Witting was named to a five-year term on the Webster City Zoning Board of Adjustment and Mike Tindall and Doug Bailey were appointed to the Webster City Airport Zoning Board of Adjustment.

The board also passed several other annual housekeeping resolutions. They authorized the county auditor to issue certain payments with out prior board approval - such as postage and utilities. The county assessor was authorized to allow homestead exemptions and the county treasurer was authorized to invest county funds.

The supervisors established the following banks as depositories for the county fund: First American Bank, First State Bank, Iowa Falls State Bank at Williams, US Bank at Stratford and Webster City Federal Savings Bank, as well as Wells Fargo in Des Moines and Iowa Public Agency Investment Trust. The Daily Freeman-Journal, South Hamilton Record News and Stratford Courier were named as the official county newspapers.

The hours for the courthouse were set for Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

County employees will receive the following paid holidays: New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and the Friday following, the last regular day before Christmas closing at noon, Christmas Day and one floating holiday.

The supervisors voted to keep the twice monthly board meetings at 9 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays.
