Grant funds available to youth-led groups

Applications due Feb. 14

December 19, 2013
The Daily Freeman Journal

Youth-led organizations and groups in Hamilton County have an opportunity to apply for grant funds to complete charitable service-learning projects or programming that benefit youth in the county. The Youth in Philanthropy (YiP) Program is a youth initiative to engage young people in providing grant funds designated from the Enhanced Hamilton County Foundation. The YiP members will be a group of young people taking a leadership role to select the grants to be awarded to various Hamilton County youth-led groups or programs.

The focus of the YiP program is to promote service learning, civic engagement of youth, and preparing future leaders in Hamilton County. The main objectives of the YiP program are to give youth a voice and add something new and innovative to the community; provide support within the community for projects; finding ways to meet or address the needs of the community; youth impacting youth; and encouraging youth to get involved in ways they are able to give back to their community.

Youth-led groups can apply for grant funds through the YiP program. The money was allocated directly from the Enhanced Hamilton County Foundation specifically for this youth leadership program. The grants will be reviewed and awarded by the youth serving as members of the YiP Program. If there are groups you lead, volunteer for, work with, or are a part of, and you are interested in completing a charitable project or program to benefit Hamilton County, we encourage you to apply. Applications are due by Feb. 14, 2014. Grants awarded are a maximum of $500, and will be awarded at the EHCF awards ceremony on April 22, 2014.

The application can be found on the Enhance Hamilton County Foundation website at www.enhancehamiltoncounty.org. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Tiffany Larson at the Building Families Office, 515.602.6371, or tlarson@co.wright.ia.us.

The YiP program is being overseen through a partnership of the Enhanced Hamilton County Foundation, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Bee Inspired CAPP Program through Building Families, and Community and Family Resources.
