No. 5 Lions possess too many weapons, handle Lynx by 13

Mossman, Avery Fuhs carry offensive burden in loss

The Daily Freeman Journal

CLEAR LAKE - With offensive weapons at every position, the fifth-ranked (Class 3A) Clear Lake boys' basketball team simply had too much firepower for Webster City here last night.

The Lynx hung tough in the first half and led at the break, but Clear Lake went on a 25-12 third-quarter run and pulled away for a 72-59 victory.

Davis Dieken, a 6-foot-5 senior, dropped 30 on the Lynx and Spencer Davidson added 18 for the unbeaten Lions (3-0, 3-0 NCC).

"It's kind of like pick your poison with them," WCHS head coach Marty McKinney said. "They are very good offensively and they've got guys that can score a ton all over the place."

The Lynx (1-2, 1-1 NCC) held a 34-31 halftime edge, but Clear Lake quickly erased it with a pair of 3-pointers to open the third quarter. And then there was Dieken, who scored inside and outside throughout.

"He's a tough match-up for us because he's a physical kid," McKinney said of Dieken. "He's an all-around good player."
