The progress that the inTANDEM workspace has seen over the past year will be celebrated Thursday with an open house.

The coworking space, located at 501 Bank Street in Webster City, will offer the public a chance to tour the facility, meet its members and get a better understanding of how the space can be utilized. The open house will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a ribbon cutting planned for 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Darcy Swon, of inTANDEM Marketing, said the grand opening and holiday open house will showcase the space now that all four of its private offices have been filled.

"We want to get people into the space and learn a little about coworking," Swon said. "Once you come in here, you kind of get it."

Henkel and Associates, P.C., will start working at the workspace on Dec. 17 for two days a week with special tax hours. In addition to its dedicated members with private offices, the workspace also hosts several mobile members who can access the public workspace at any time. Those members include Art and Soul, which occasionally uses the space to host guided painting parties, and The Computer Guy, who offers on-site and remote computer help and repair.

"For me, it's the members and not the walls or space that make up the workspace," Swon said. "It's about who is in those offices and who is doing their work here."

The workspace also offers daily passes for anyone looking to use the public workspace from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Swon said the inTANDEM workspace offers traveling professionals a place to meet or work, those who work from home an alternative place to get work done, a place to host larger meetings, direct sales parties and much more.

"The thing with the space is it really can be utilized however you want to," Swon said. "Whatever you do, do it here."

Webster City Chamber Director Deb Brown said the coworking space, which opened on Aug. 7, adds a unique asset to the city.

"We're very proud of the coworking space. It's the fourth one in a rural Iowa community. There's much to be celebrated there," Brown said. "We're particularly happy with it at the Chamber because we have new members that are able to work out of this location."

To celebrate the workspace, Swon and other workspace members are offering giveaways during the open house. The Computer Guy will do a giveaway of gift certificates, Art and Soul will offer a chance to win attendance to a painting class for no cost, and the workspace itself will do a giveaway of workspace hours. Holiday dcor is also being provided for the open house by Stony Creek Landscapes.
