Tours of Jane Young House planned

Costumed tour guides to share history of home

December 6, 2013
The Daily Freeman Journal

The Webster City Women's Club will begin hosting tours of the Jane Young House on Dec. 14 from noon to 4 pm. Thirty- minute tours will be available for small groups of 4 to 8 people.

Reservations for Dec. 14 and into 2014 can be made through the Webster City Chamber Office at (515) 832-2564. The price will be $5 per person. Those interested can also also register online atvisitwebstercityiowa.com/events-calendar.htm.

Loween Getter and JoAnn Robb will be your guides acting as Jane Young and her housemaid when you tour both floors of this grand home built in 1874. Participants will hear about the adventuresome life of Kendall Young, a real California 49-er gold miner, in the mid- 1800's and find out how he was able to successfully travel back from California carrying his gold he mined on his person. This became the foundation of his fortune as he settled in Iowa.

Anyone taking the tour on Dec. 14 will see a special highlight. Five Webster City Chamber Businesses have donated their time and design expertise to decorating the home for Christmas making.

Stony Creek Landscapes - front double doors

Flower Cart - grand staircase with built in coffin corner

Heart 'N Home - Italian marble fireplace

Every Blooming Thing - formal dining room table

Hy-Vee Floral - side showcase display

Hot cider, coffee, and Christmas cookies will be served near the end of the tour.
