YFC to hold open house

Volunteers, staff awards to be given at the annual holiday event

The Community Advisory Board and staff of the Youth and Family Center of Hamilton County will hold a Holiday Open House event from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Hamilton County Extension Office, 311 Bank St., Webster City. The community is invited to attend.

Holiday desserts and refreshments will be provided by the board members and staff. Those attending will have a chance to meet members of the Community Advisory Board and center staff to learn about the YFC's activities and programs.

A brief presentation will be given by Nicholle Buckels, a program participant, who will describe her journey through many foster homes and the joy of being adopted at age 17.

Jane Adams, services director for Youth and Family Center, will welcome guests and give a brief program update of the Youth and Family Center and will present a Volunteer Service Award to Bruce Johnson.

The Annual YSS Philanthropy Award will be given to local city governments.

Carol Zills will be presented with the YSS 20-year Staff Service Award. Zills, who has served as the Youth and Family Center office manager, is retiring after 20 years service

Members of the board for YSS of Hamilton County include Peggy Arends, Doug Bailey, Kathy Birkestrand, Ron Birkestrand, Barb Franzen, LuAnn, Garvey, Bruce Johnson, Jean Kayser, Ginny Krieger and Sherry Lambi.

Youth and Family Center of Hamilton County offers in-home family counseling, crisis intervention, assessment services, aftercare services, in-office family counseling, substance abuse assessments and treatment, and foster care and adoption services.
