STANHOPE - With Stanhope city clerk Ron McKenzie set to retire in June, the City Council there looked at details of finding his replacement when they met in regular session Tuesday evening.

City Council members Nila Zanker and Roger Hayes, Jr. were named to the search committee for the new city clerk. They plan to meet before the December council meeting. The council approved the job description for the position. McKenzie told the council he would like to have his replacement on board by April 2014.

In another staffing matter, the council approved hiring Dave Ulicki of Stanhope for temporary, part-time employment for tree trimming and other work projects.

According to notes on the city audit, the town's sewer rate doesn't keep up with the bond. The council directed McKenzie to prepare a new ordinance for sewer and water rates by spring.

Public works superintendent Tad Stupp was present to discuss public works projects with the council. He reported that the garage that will be the new concession stand in the town park will be moved to its new site this week.

A visitor at Tuesday's meeting was Jane Adams, director of Youth and Family Center, based in Webster City. She thanked the council for their support over the past several years, adding that funding from the outlying communities is very important.

Also on Tuesday, there was a preliminary discussion on the 2014-15 operating budget. McKenzie requested that each council member bring with them to the December meeting four items that the think are important to be included in the next budget.
