Many contests around county

Voters in Hamilton County will have some big decisions to make when casting allots in Tuesday's election will. Several communities across Hamilton County have contested races for City Council.

In Jewell, four candidates are running for three seats on the Jewell City Council. Chris Gunderson, Kenneth Outzen, Leo Reiter and Rickie Young are all seeking election to the council seats. Mickey Walker is running unopposed for mayor.

Randall also has four candidates on the ballot for three seats on its City Council. Michelle Culver, Steven James Moore, Scott E. Stephens and Gina Wheeler are running for the seats. Gregg Wright is unopposed for the mayor's seat.

In Stratford, three names are on the ballot for the mayoral seat - Douglas S.H. Kinsey, Kirk D. Richardson and Brian Wilde, a former Stratford councilman, died on Oct. 25. Commissioner of Elections Kim Schaa said his death occurred after the deadline to remove a name from the ballot. She added that if Wilde were to receive the most votes, he would be declared the winner. But in January, when the new council is seated, an appointment to the mayor's position would have to be made or a special election would need to be called. Schaa said even if an appointment would be made, citizens could petition for a special election.

Stratford also has four people seeking three seats on the City Council - James E. Bricker, Chase Haman, Larry Runyan and Mark Scott.

Uncontested races

Troy Hassebrock in Blairsburg is running unopposed for mayor. Jill Babington and Rodney E. Harris are seeking the two City Council seats in that community.

In Ellsworth, Gregory Campbell is running for mayor and Kris Groth and Marty S. Jensen are seeking the two council seats.

Howard Moon, Scott D. Nieman and Greg Philbrook are running for three City Council seats in Kamrar.

Harold Hove is seeking re-election as mayor of Stanhope. Gary Baker Jr. and Trent A. Flockhart are seeking two seats on the City Council

In Williams, Jessica Schutt is on the ballot for the mayor's seat, and Dennis Frayne, Richard Kohl and Margaret Ronnfeldt are seeking the three City Council seats.

Trustee positions

Two seats on the Fuller Hall Board of Trustees are on the ballot. Mary C. Fortune and Ann E. Kness are seeking reelection to the board.

Crystal Gordon is seeking a seat on the Kendall Young Library and Trust Estate board. If elected, she would serve from 2014 through 2018. Mark Dohms and Tami L. Hejlik are running for two seats on the library board. Those two seats would begin in 2015 and run through 2019.
