WILLIAMS - With a trip planned for the summer of 2015, Northeast Hamilton students and chaperones are London and Paris bound.
NEH teachers Kim Cavanagh and Paige Moberly are sponsoring another Education First Tour abroad for students July 22 to 30, 2015.
This is the third travel adventure offered to NEH students. This past summer, a group toured Rome and Greece for nine days. Several years ago, the Spanish class had traveled to Costa Rica.
Travelers from Northeast Hamilton School had a chance to tour the Colosseum during a trip to Europe last summer. The group will fly from Des Moines, arriving in London, England. They will also travel to Kent and Dover.
While in Great Britain, they will tour Windsor Castle, Canterbury, Trafalgar Square, Big Ben and Dover Castle.
Optional excursions include visiting the London Eye, taking a Thames River cruise, touring the Tower of London, attending a Jack the Ripper evening tour and visiting the Sherlock Holmes house/museum.
From the White Cliffs of Dover, the group will travel via a ferry across the English Channel to France.
While in Paris, the travelers will visit highlights in the City of Light such as the masterpieces in the Louvre and the Rose Window of Notre Dame Cathedral. They will also visit the Latin Quarter of the French capital.
The student cost of the trip is $2,985 for enrollment prior to Oct. 31. The cost after that date is $3,185. Students who have previously traveled with EF will receive a $100 discount.
STYA Youth Foundation has grants available for students interested in joining the tour, said Paige Moberly.
There are several payment options for students wishing to accompany the group, said Moberly.
The two most popular payment options are the monthly installment plan or the manual payment plan.
Students in grades 7-12 are eligible to accompany the tour.
Anyone traveling with the tour is required to carry a passport, said Moberly. Passport applications may take several months to process, so persons wishing to travel with the group should apply for a passport as soon as possible.
The trip is more than just a tourist excursion, said Moberly.
"Many colleges and universities are looking for international experience on students' applications to set them apart," said Moberly. "Travel is not just for education but is an investment that gives your child an advantage in a competitive world."
In addition, students benefit from a travel experience when they are exposed to new cultures, Moberly said. This experience helps students become more globally aware.
"They also have the ability to sign up for college courses to earn credits," she added.
Fundraising is underway for the 2015 trip. A Green Fundraiser will find the students collecting old phones, computers and ink cartridges for recycling. The group will also be conducting bake sales, pop can drives and individual efforts, said Moberly.
