Their own work of art

Art and Soul offers public painting parties

It takes a lot of skill to create art and more to teach others how to create it.

That's exactly what Jessica Furman, of Art and Soul in Webster City, offers with her guided canvas painting parties.

No painting or drawing experience is required at her parties. Furman walks through each step of the painting process with participants and provides the materials needed for them to make their own work of art.

Jessica Furman walks through the first steps of creating the background of a guided painting at her first painting party at the inTANDEM Workspace with Art and Soul.

Wednesday night, Furman hosted her first party with a group of about 10 women at the inTANDEM Workspace in Webster City. The idea that would eventually become Art and Soul was with Furman for about a year and a half when she went to a canvas and cocktails party in Denver, Colo.

"I just loved the idea and thought there's nothing around here like this," Furman said.

It was with the help of some friends that Furman was pushed to create the business.

Furman, a business major in college, said she couldn't make a living off of art. However, she said she has always enjoyed it. Both her grandmother and father were involved with painting, and Furman herself had a lot of experience with ceramics.

Art and Soul hosts both public parties and private parties at any location. For more information, Art and Soul is on Facebook. To sign up for a class, contact Furman by her phone which can be found on Facebook.

Public parties are planned for November and December.
